Replacement Windows versus Construction Windows

Windows are an important part of your home, so you want to keep them looking the best they can. A construction window is one that is already built, and they will customize the frame in your home to fit the window. Sometimes, depending one what will need to be done (having the frame larger or smaller), this can be quite costly. A replacement window is one that is custom ordered to the specific size that your frame is already. These are typically less expensive, quicker, and easier to put in. Replacement windows are especially nice for if you are remodeling your house and have a specific size in mind. If you were building a new house or a new side to your home, construction windows would also work.

What is a Replacement Window?

A replacement window is one that is made to fit into the window space you already have in your home. Little to no construction is needed when you get a replacement window in your home. The area left by your previous window is the space they will use. You can have these fitted according to the size you need, although some may take longer to order depending on what size you may need. These windows are inserted into the already existing frame without and overlap or gaps of the window, making sure your home is draft free while also being energy efficient.

Energy efficiency of Replacement Windows

Having correct fitting windows is important for the safety and efficiency of your home. An intruder could notice a gap near the window if you do not insulate and cover it well enough. This will make it easy for the intruder to break in and possibly loosen the window. If your home also has gaps, it will not be as efficient and you will notice it in your energy bill. This will let cool air out in the summer, and warm air out in the winter. By having a window that fits your existing window frame, you can be assured you will not have any air leaks and your house will be more efficient as a result.

Other Benefits of Replacement Windows

With gaps, you have the risk for intruders and insect infestation. Even the smallest of gaps will be inviting to insects such as ants, cockroaches, and other pests. In the winter, larger creatures such as bats or mice could make their way in. A proper fitting window will also prevent moisture from leaking in and around the frame. If the window does not fit properly to the frame, water, frost, and moisture can leak in and cause the frame to get mildew and rot. If it goes on for a length of time, it could also damage your walls and your flooring. In some extreme cases the window could fall out of the frame, resulting in it breaking. This too would become a larger expense because you will have to replace the window as well as the frame. This could also happen at an inconvenient time for you, causing you unnecessary stress, time and cost.
